I Like Thursday @ Not Afraid of Color

This is the last rose of summer. 

This last pink rose on the climber on my garden arch is bravely opening to the sun today even though we had our first nip of frost last night.  This beauty was protected by a nearby fence.  Many of our more exposed annuals were shriveled up this morning. Some of our hardy mums are still blooming.

Most of the leaves on the maples have dropped and the oaks are falling, too.

Wednesday WIP: Sampler Spree Week 5 from Patchwork Sampler Blog

There is still not a lot of sewing at my house right now, but it is fun piecing these few Sampler Spree blocks every week. For week 5, the color is red and ten blocks were assigned.

Here are my blocks.

When the color red popped up, I found I do not have a lot of red in my modern fabric stash. There is pink, fuchsia, and coral, but not much red. Luckily, I had enough to piece these blocks though. I also may have done a little stash enhancement shopping to correct this wrong!!

I am sewing along by numerical order in the book.

These are all 6.5" unfinished blocks.

In the layout in the book, the small blocks are sewn together

 into larger blocks of four. 

I think I am going to wait to sew mine together.

I may decide to sew them together in order, also.

These are fun blocks to make.

Wednesday WIP: Green Sampler Spree Blocks from Patchwork Sampler Blog

I am having fun with the Sampler Spree QAL. Making these blocks is like eating potato chips. You just can’t stop. They are easy to make and only take a few minutes. Instant gratification!

When the color green came up for last week’s blocks, I was not sure I had enough green in my scrap bin for all ten blocks. Green is not my favorite color. I find it hard to work with so I don’t buy much. Apparently, I purchased and used plenty over the years because there was more than enough to complete these blocks ...
